Meet Kirsten

Wedding florist wales and the south west

South Wales florist with wedding bouquet

Hello I’m Kirsten, I am based in rural Neath in South Wales, working from my studio on a farm. I founded Queen of the Meadow after retraining as a florist at the Tallulah Rose Flower School. I wanted to offer an alternative to the traditional flowers sold on the high street and showcase British and seasonal flowers in bespoke arrangements. I create floral works of art for weddings and events using untamed flowers and foliage found growing naturally in the British Isles. My creations evoke a walk through a rambling cottage garden using beautiful scented flowers from my own cutting garden, local growers and flower markets.

I take my inspiration from my surroundings, my work reflects the changing seasons, whether it is a tumbling hedgerow in Autumn or a farm meadow in summer. I look to the past for influence, creating natural, winsome and romantic flowers. I cover Wales and the South of England and love to travel if the brief is right.

I work with local growers, as well as using some of my own home grown flowers, to ensure that the freshest blooms and most organic forms are used. I love nothing more than using wiggly and wild stems! Working with British growers where possible in my work ensures that less air miles are used, it supports the British growing industry and uses flowers that have not been subjected to pesticides. My cutting garden is home to a variety of flowers which have all been grown from seed. We have several ducks and chickens which roam the garden and farm freely, keeping the snail and slug population down.

Why I use locally grown flowers

Sustainability is one of the core values of my business, therefore I do not use any floral foam or single use plastics in my work. I like to use traditional methods of flower arranging instead, I feel that this creates a truly natural and loose feel to my work. I do not use cellophane either, replacing this with re-useable and recyclable materials instead.

My workshop sits in the garden surrounded by the chatter of the birds, this helps me reconnect with nature.
